My Project

Let’s be honest. Getting middle schoolers to fall in love with reading can feel like trying to herd caffeinated squirrels. But The Unteachables by Gordon Korman is the kind of book that grabs kids by the funny bone and pulls them into a story they actually want to read.

This project will bring a full class set of The Unteachables into our sixth-grade classroom, one copy for every student.

No book-sharing, no crowding over one page, and definitely no arguments about who read faster. This hilarious and heartfelt novel follows a group of so-called misfit students and a teacher who has completely given up on the education system. When they get thrown together in Room 117, chaos and comedy follow, along with some surprisingly powerful life lessons.

My students will love this book because it speaks their language. It is full of sarcasm, awkward moments, and the kind of humor that makes even reluctant readers laugh out loud. More importantly, it shows that everyone deserves a chance to be seen for who they really are, not just the labels they have been given.

With your support, my students will not just read this story. They will connect with it, reflect on it, and maybe even discover that reading can be one of the best parts of their school day.
