My Project
As a teacher at a Title I school, I have a significant number of students who are from low-income households. This can create a situation with students where they are unable to focus on their school work because they are too worried about their basic needs not being met. The mission at our school extends far beyond academics; it's about creating an environment where every child can thrive despite economic hardships. As the weather turns colder, our students face an additional layer of adversity – the lack of warm clothing.
As we strive to provide a nurturing educational environment, it becomes crucial to address their basic needs.
As temperatures drop, the need for warm supplies becomes even more pressing. Being able to provide students with a warm hat and gloves can make a world of difference for a child navigating the winter weather. This project also extends to the provision of pants, offering students the comfort and dignity to change if necessary. For adolescents, facing an unexpected situation without a change of clothes can be a source of embarrassment and stress. By having spare pants readily available, we can eliminate this concern, which helps students to feel secure and confident.
Moreover, the challenges our students face extend beyond these concerns. If a student arrives late, they have missed breakfast. By making sure nutritious snacks are available for those who may arrive at school after breakfast has been served or even those who just may find themselves hungry throughout the day, I am helping them to focus on their studies rather than their hunger.
