Our school is in Missouri with approximately 1000 students, grades 9-12. We have about 80% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite resources in the school and families sometimes being tight, our students are passionate about their learning. Our dual credit enrollment thrives, and kids are excited about new classes and extracurricular activities.
Our library strives to be a positive, engaging and comforting place to read, create, learn and grow.
I worked last year with my Donor's Choose projects to make a comforting, engaging and welcoming high school library where students could come for some quiet time to read, study, decompress, and recharge. I work to create a positive learning atmosphere to better meet student's emotional needs. I want the library to be a place students want to come. Getting them in the door is half the battle. Then, students can become more aware and benefit from all the fantastic resources and programs we offer in the library.
Students are always requesting snacks and coffee. Through Donor's Choose and AMAZING donors, we have purchased 6 Keurigs. The coffee and tea supplies bought through this project will help us begin to fundraise to support the library, the drama department and yearbook. Students will be selling coffee, tea and hot chocolate to raise money for their school community and clubs. By starting this business to raise funds, students will be gaining real life skills in customer service, advertising, marketing and business.
