This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My amazing high school students are all recent immigrants who are learning English as their second, third or even fourth language. My students are from more than 20 countries and speak more than 6 different languages.

Due to Boston's skyrocketing costs of living, many of my students are living in shelters, group homes or other transitional housing, and some students struggle to focus with so much uncertainty and transition in their home lives.

According to NBC, Boston is the third most expensive place to live in the United States. With no end in sight to the housing crisis, it is vital that I make my classroom a place that is safe, welcoming and trauma responsive for all my students.

My Project

Every year, I have more and more students whose families struggle to make ends meet in the expensive city of Boston. Winter is a particularly challenging month when families have to buy new clothes, holiday presents and pay higher heating bills.

These five coats will help five students and give their families one less thing to worry about this winter.

Before I selected the coats for this project, I spoke with several students privately about their needs and made sure that I selected coats that matched their sizes and styles.
