This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Sight and smells make a big difference to an environment. Soft lighting and calming scents make for a welcoming and comforting environment. My classroom currently has 12 fluorescent lights, and a small window. We get some natural lighting, but not much. I remember when I was in school, when a teacher had lamps, or kept the lights off, I had a sense of comfort.
My students deserve a warm and calm environment to learn in.
Especially since they may not have that at home. Studies have shown the affect of fluorescent lighting on the brain, and it has more negative affects than most of us realize. Light covers, as well as floor lamps with warm light bulbs is going to create a welcoming and comforting environment that students can feel safe in. Add on relaxing and soothing scents from essential oils; my classroom will feel more like home, rather than an office.
