Our middle school is made up of about 1500 students. Our student body is composed of a mix of races and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are only miles away from Barksdale Air Force Base, and so we have a large military population. Our school, teachers, and students work hard each day. The school has received many awards. I teach about 90 eighth graders, including students in inclusion and special education. Each day my students work so hard and always keep positive attitudes as they strive to grow.
My Project
My students need navy blue uniform jackets to wear during the school day. Our school district has a policy that all jackets must be navy when worn inside the school building. Many of our students do not have a solid navy jacket. They are allowed to wear any jacket to the school, but once inside, they must take off their non-navy jacket. I believe that many parents are doing all they can to find and send solid navy jackets. January and February are our coldest months, and many of my students do not have the appropriate jacket. I would love to help the students who need it most have a jacket.
Students need the warmth and security of a navy jacket so that they do not feel like they are breaking school rules.
