Our students are a motivated bunch of urban youth at a public Boston 7-12 school who strive to excel academically as well as athletically. Our girls soccer program has Varsity and JV teams.
In games players are only allowed to put layers under their uniforms to stay warm if they ALL match.
Most of the girls don't own athletic thermals or base layers, and this will even out the opportunity that they can keep their muscles warm on the bench or between practice sets as well as wick moisture when they're working hard.
This will enable everyone to be dressed appropriately for the crazy New England weather. It's a Fall sport, and the temperature ranges from blazing hot in the beginning of the season to snow during games at the end.
Our program has been pretty successful in recent years, with four City Championships and four trips to the MIAA Division III North Conference State tournament, and I would attribute that to the increased participation and hard work of the girls who are on the teams. They want to play more than in our High School Fall Season, so we try to provide the environment and other school opportunities for soccer enrichment in the Winter and Spring. Proper gear will expand the time that they feel comfortable to get out there and train.
