My Students

Some of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with books! What better way than a cozy rug in the book nook where they can get lost in the magical world of reading. We have tile floors.

My fourth grade students live in a high poverty area and all are receiving free breakfast and lunch.

Students are reading from one to 3 levels below grade level. I want to give them a warm, homey feeling where they can get lost in their book, and learn to love reading. Giving them a place to read will encourage them to read more.

My Project

I am requesting 1 Fun Rug and 1 bean bag to create a comfortable area for reading. Students will be able to find a comfortable area to read, off of the cold tile floor. We are located in the northeast with winter coming, who would want to sit on a cold floor? I can envision students falling in love with reading, curling up with a book, and successfully reading for a sustained 30 minutes. We need your help to create this cozy reading environment.

Many students don't have the resources at home to find a book and a warm cozy area to read.

Having an area where they can relax and read, and see others doing it too, will put them on a path to be lifetime readers and learners.
