Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a special education class for students with exceptional needs. Our students learn using an alternate curriculum. Most of our students are nonverbal, but they are able to communicate using sign language, gestures, and alternative communication devices. I have eleven curious students who do not let their disabilities limit them from learning and accessing the world around them. They are eager to learn and share what they know with everyone they meet. They are friendly and very inquisitive. Our students come to school with a positive attitude and enjoy learning and helping one another.

I would love to help my students have warm clothes for the cold months ahead of us.

Some of our students come from low-income households so it would be wonderful to be able to provide uniform clothes that are appropriate for the different seasons. A few of my students are unable to have clean clothes to wear all the time because the laundromat is not easily accessible. I am hoping these extra clothes will help them stay warm, healthy, and clean during the cold winter months.
