Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my kindergarten classroom, we always like to have extra clothing available for students as needed. While we ask that students have an extra set of clothing to keep at school in case of accidents or spills, many families do not have extra clothing to spare. We have items donated by staff and family members over the years to keep on hand; however, our supplies are running low. Over the years, we have purchased several rounds of clothing to keep on hand and need help replenishing our supply! While accidents happen, many students feel embarrassed when they need to change clothing, and we want to avoid a situation where we do not have extra clothing to offer! While we are generally prepared in the younger grades, many times older students need clothing too, whether they get wet walking to school in rainy weather, have an upset stomach, or spill.
Having clothing available in our classroom in multiple sizes will help keep students clean and warm if they do not have extra clothing.
Additionally, while many families send their students to school with a snack for snack time, we always want to have extra snacks available if families are unable to do so for a period of time. Making sure students are fed is critical to meeting their needs as people as well as learners. Our students are becoming independent at caring for their needs and wiping their noses when needed; however, we are quickly running out of tissues despite several rounds of replenishing! Lastly, having wipes available is important for face wiping and bathroom accidents to keep all students clean and cared for while they are at school. This project would allow us to replenish our classroom supplies!
