Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders enrolled in a rural Northeast high school. Our school is a large public high school with nearly 2300 students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with many of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the Northeast.

My students all love to come to a studio based class and enjoy the challenges and high expectations I set for them.

My students are enrolled in the Visual Arts program at our school and are extremely creative. They have a wide range of learning needs; some with high skill levels and others with very special needs requiring lesson modification. Currently I teach primarily digital photography.

My Project

Our school days are long. Days start early (7:20 am) and for many of our students extend way beyond the last bell with after school activities, sports and after school jobs. Some students may not have the time or availability to eat or have a warm drink before they arrive to class in the morning.

Please consider donating to help purchase a Keurig and a variety of beverage supplies so we can set up a hot beverage station in my classroom.

Our students need a variety of supplies and learning tools to succeed. Research has shown that students are able to learn better when they're well nourished. With your support, I will be able to provide this additional resource to help warm my students' minds, bodies and hearts.
