I teach a group of fabulous fifth graders in a rural school district in Northern Colorado. They are a very caring and considerate lot. They love learning and make it extremely easy to come to work every day. I am very fortunate to be able to teach in the small community where I grew up. It is a fantastic little school district with many caring administrators, teachers, and community members. Letford is a unique elementary school within the district. We have a diverse student body with children from all types of backgrounds. Our students’ academic, social and emotional needs are as varied as their circumstances.
My students work towards learning all of the standards for each of the content areas.
They truly have a thirst for knowledge and a desire to learn and grow. My students continue to strive to meet the ever-changing expectations and will go on to be productive members of their communities.
Students spend a majority of their time in school. Companies like Google, Amazon and Dropbox strive to create a comfortable, warm and inviting place to work, which increases productivity and engagement. That is exactly what I aim to do in my classroom. I would like to create a defined space for independent reading.
I envision an environment where students want to come together to create, collaborate and communicate with one another in order to learn and achieve great things.
I will use the funds donated to create a defined reading area with a cozy shag area rug, comfy seating options, Bedrest pillows and Intex Empire Chairs, as well as soft Ikea lighting, which will set the tone for a lifelong love of books.
