Warm and Cozy Reading Seating

My Students

My kindergarten students come from a variety of different backgrounds ranging from low-income to military families and everything in between. One thing the students and I try to spark in each other is our desire to read new and challenging books that can take us on an adventure. My students also realize that one of the best things they can do is feel comfortable and cozy while reading.

There is nothing better than a safe, comfortable space to read in!

We have a small reading corner in the classroom that many students seek refuge in when they want some down time to read or want to curl up with a good book. I'd love to provide them with a safe and comfortable space so that they can focus on their book instead of their location.

My Project

A soft, cozy chair is an invitation to crack open a book, but it's also a place where you can simply sit and breathe. In a Kindergarten world where there is stimulus and occasionally chaos, a space that is comfortable to sit in, can give you peace that you might not always find in a classroom with other five-year-olds.

When students feel comfortable and relaxed in their environment, they can let go of the stressors and simply read.

The more they read and practice, the more they can increase their skills in comprehension, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary.

Flexible comfortable seating will provide my students with an area in our classroom that could improve their reading skills, but also allow them to find a time of peace and relaxation during their day.
