Warm and Cozy for Outdoor Play!

My students need warm hats and mittens to allow us to play outside on chilly days.

My Students

I teach in a diverse, Title I school in a suburb of Washington, DC. Preschool is often the children's first time being away from their parents, so I strive to make it a fun and engaging environment.

Our morning and afternoon classes include three, four and five-year-olds with special needs.

The children have a variety of disabilities, including Down Syndrome, blindness, autism, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, and language disorders. I also have a few students who are typically developing who serve as peer models for language and socialization. My students come from culturally and linguistically diverse families and many face socio-economic challenges.

My Project

We work hard to give our students opportunities to play outside each day. Outdoor play is essential for the growth and development of young children. Children develop critical motor skills, cognitive skills, and social skills by playing outside.

My students will benefit from having warm and cozy hats and mittens.

For many of our students, school is their only chance to play outside. We want to provide them with positive outdoor experiences each day.

We know the benefits of outdoor play are exponential, but being warm enough to enjoy the outdoors is critical. Our students' families often cannot afford to provide them with the gear needed to go adventuring outside through the winter.
