This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how difficult school was as a kid? Sure. We all do. Now try to imagine how arduous it would have been if you couldn't see the blackboard (or whiteboard, as we use now) or read a book that was right on your desk.

I teach three amazing classes with over 90 students in total.

Being a teacher, especially a Language Arts/Literacy teacher for that matter, I witness kids reading on a daily basis. They copy notes and assignments off of the board and view examples on the overhead projector. Many struggle to read a book or a handout. It didn't take me long to notice many of my students squinting heavily to try to complete these seemingly simple tasks. I've changed seating arrangements in my classroom so kids who have a difficult time seeing are up in front, but even having done that, I still have a steady stream of kids who choose to sit on the floor RIGHT IN FRONT of the blackboard to copy notes and assignments.

My Project

It boils down to this sad, but true reality -- many of my students cannot see and their parents cannot afford to buy them eyeglasses. This proposal is going to literally bring sight to thirty amazingly deserving students who struggle everyday, more than they should have to, just because they can't see. This proposal will provide for an eye exam and a pair of Warby Parker eyeglasses (free AND stylish ones) for each student that needs them.

If this proposal is achieved, thirty kids who couldn't yesterday, will be able to see tomorrow.

It is as plain and simple as that. Thirty kids who already are wonderful students will have their school and home lives infinitely approved. I don't think any words can put into context how critical this is. By contributing to this proposal, you will be providing the gift of sight to over two dozen deserving, hard-working individuals.
