Help me give my students a magnetic, wall mounted, white board that will display projects, anchor charts, and serve as a focal point for classroom lessons.
I teach a fifth grade classroom with 22 bright and eager young ladies and gentlemen. Our school is in an ethnically diverse, low-income neighborhood. In my classroom alone, students speak four different languages; French, Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
The kids come to school still willing to work, despite the challenges they face in their personal lives.
They are strong and have a growth mindset that is admirable. They are aspiring engineers, marine biologists, teachers, and cartoonists. They inspire me to be a better teacher and human on a daily basis.
My Project
My school was built in the 1970s as an open concept school, constructed with no walls to encourage community building. Over the years partitions have been installed, but it can still be pretty noisy.
To keep the noise level down, teachers hold lessons with the students in a circle on the floor around a whiteboard.
My current classroom has a beautiful, massive white board. Unfortunately, I cannot take it with me to the new room I am assigned to for next year. The whiteboard in the classroom that I am moving to has definitely seen better days, it is non-magnetic, scratched, and it never really comes clean.
I want to be able to teach and inspire my students. To do so more effectively, I need a white board that will come clean and that is magnetic. In my teaching, I use a lot of anchor charts and magnetic math manipulatives. It is imperative to be able to use magnets to attach them the board. Running around and looking for a clip or some tape interrupts the flow of learning.
