This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third-grade students are hardworking, kind, and creative. As the founding class of our school's Dual Language program, they have been learning content in both English and Spanish since Kindergarten. They are developing rich vocabulary in both languages that will grow with them throughout the years.
Our goal is for students to grow and reach their full potential through the bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural lens of a dual language immersion classroom.
The school is considered Title 1 and is found in a low-income neighborhood, where 90% of students qualify for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Our class is very diverse, with most of my students overcoming difficult experiences and home lives. Despite these challenges, my students come to school every day excited and ready to learn. Regardless of the statistics, one thing is for sure, we are bilingual and proud!
My Project
By donating to this project you will help students improve their reading skills in Spanish. It has been shown that students who read within a series progress faster in their reading skills and understanding of books.
I would like to provide students the opportunity to get excited about a book and be able to follow the character through their many journeys within the series.
Our classroom library is filled with many books at a variety of levels, but we are in need of a variety of series books to choose from. My students have enjoyed reading books in a series and would like to continue this work.
Help us to fill some of the gaps in our classroom library so students can read more of the books they are interested in. They can't wait until they have access to more books in the series that they love!
