Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school in Southern California, where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students face many obstacles in their lives, such as poverty and crime. But despite these issues, they come to school every day, ready to learn.
My students are enthusiastic learners, who love to read, write, and learn new things.
I want to encourage their enthusiasm and provide them with a safe, nurturing environment where they will persevere and feel successful.
My Project
My students use pencils all day long. They use pencils to write stories, solve math problems, and draw pictures. Unfortunately, my current pencil sharpener is broken, so my students are using dull pencils. Dull pencils can be a distraction, as students search for pencils or small sharpeners from their friends.
My students and I need an electric pencil sharpener to keep their pencils sharp, so they can keep writing, solving math problems, and drawing pictures.
Its funny to think how something as simple as a sharp pencil could improve our classroom instruction and routines. I also have a few students who have difficulty holding pencils, so they would benefit from pencil grips to improve their grip and penmanship.
