My Students

My students are curious young children who are amazed at the world around them. My students love coming to school to share stories about their lives, question what is happening around them, and learn something new. Since they come from low-income homes, this is often the first time they have experienced some of the things we are learning.

One hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My school is a Title I school in which we strive to provide our students with what they need to be successful. Often, my students' families do not have the resources to provide school supplies, proper clothing for the changing seasons in Michigan, or extracurricular activities.

I know that my students need these things to feel successful, so I try my best to provide them with every tool that I can so that I can inspire them to be life-long learners.

My Project

This year, I am in a new position in which my job is to support students who are having a hard time with their reading skills. In this new position, it is my job to identify what each student needs to work on to be a successful reader and then plan lessons for each student based on their unique needs. My students are the most struggling readers in our school, and work very hard every day to meet their learning goals. For that reason, I like to incorporate games into their learning as much as possible.

Students learn the best when the learning is fun and engaging.

So, every week, I make games for them based on the skills we are working on. I make the games out of cardstock and laminate them so that they can be used for many students, can be cleaned easily, and can last for many years. Some of the games also require other materials that are also listed in my project.

My students are amazing children who are hard workers! They love coming to our group. After multiple months of coming to our reading groups, they are feeling very successful! I'd like to continue that feeling of success by continuing to provide them with learning games! Thank you for considering to support this project! My students and I appreciate it!
