My Students
Dr. Seuss says, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." I want my first graders to know it ALL!
My students are Texas first graders that are just beginning to develop a love of books!
They live in a community where their parents are working parents with a large number of economically disadvantaged students. I see a lot of these kids after school roaming the neighborhood. They are 6! My classroom provides a safe place for these kids to learn and be with someone who is excited to teach them to read and all of the wonderful things you can find in books which is often an escape from a difficult home life. I want to provide ALL that I can for these kids.
My Project
This leveled library will provide an opportunity for students to get their hands on books daily that are just right for them. This set of books will allow students to choose books that interest them and are also on their reading level to read both independently and to other students during "The Daily 5." Having students read on their own level will give them confidence and help them along on their path to becoming a literate member of our future!!
With this leveled library, all of my first graders will have books to read as they move along in reading levels throughout the year.
It will challenge higher students, meet the needs of on level learners, and build confidence for struggling readers!! Most importantly it will put books in the hands of students who may otherwise not have them at home. My goal is for every one of my students to love reading and become lifelong learners. This donation will directly help me accomplish that goal!
