We are a middle school learning community of grades 6 through 8 in an inner-city school.
Due to budget constraints, teachers were given barely enough money to order pens and paper for next year. However, we are implementing a comprehensive program called Keeping Learning on Track in our middle school next year. Teachers will be working collaboratively for two years to rethink and restrategize the way we teach. One component of this program is frequent assessment of students using quality diagnostic questions. One way to measure student learning is by using lapboards as an "all response" technique. The students then hold up the lapboards with their responses and teachers can get an instant view of student learning. These responses can springboard to a class discussion or clarification of misconceptions.
In order to implement this phase of the program, we really need several sets of lapboards. Because we don't have the funds to order them, we are asking very generous donors to help us fill this need.
You, as donors, will help us kickstart this collaborative program at the onset of the school year. The sooner we start in the school year, the closer we get to improving student achievement.
