Despite the rough upbringing and limited resources of this community, our students are resilient. A significant number if these children are growing up without father figures and sometimes even without their own mothers. Many have been taken in by an aunt, uncle, abuelita or abuelito because their parents have been deported. I teach aprroxamiately 600 students as I am the only music teacher for the entire school. We only have one class set of recorders and ukeleles. This children do not know much outside of their small town or school. My hope is to inspire them through music to bring an awareness of a much bigger world than they know.
I teach at a small, rural school with a brand new elementary music program.
We are starting from scratch - no instruments, equipment, or curriculum. A generous supporter has donated a quality piano keyboard but we are in need of an A/V cart to help me stay mobile with my classes or when setting up for a performance.
I believe that music is essential and irreplaceable in public education. We appreciate your thoughtful consideration of our project. Please consider a donation today and spreading the word to anyone who might be interested in extending the eternal joy of music to underprivileged students. Thank you so very much!
