This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work as a first grade CTT (Collaborative Team Teaching) teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn. My 23 students are a mix of Special Ed and General Ed students. Most of my students are of Latino descent and are English Language Learners.
My children do not have it easy. Many of their parents do not speak English, they come from foster homes, and some do not even know when or where their next meal is coming from. It is a wonder to me that they come to school every single day with smiles on their faces, ready and willing to learn.
My students have so much potential to excel in school and beyond, but they do not have the proper tools and materials in order to do so. My school is a high needs school. We do not have computers or the tools that our kids need in order to thrive.
I was wondering if you could donate some readers, workbooks, and other supplies for my students in order to help them with their reading, phonics, math, and writing ability.
I believe that with the help of these supplies, my students will excel in these subjects and be able to read and write on grade level. I believe in my children and hope that you do too. This is why I am asking you to help us by giving us some greatly needed tools.
