My students need great literature! At our inner-city school, we do not have a school library--books that my students have available to read are from the classroom library I have bought and built.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an inner-city, low socio-economic district. The majority of my students are Hispanic, with their native language being Spanish. We have many students new to the country from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and Ecuador. 100% of the school receives free breakfast and lunch.
I have such unique learners and they surprise me each and every day!
I want to help foster their love for reading and writing. Literacy is such a passion of mine and I want to be able to provide my students with the very best literacy instruction to help them grow as modern readers and writers.
With limited resources, exposing students to new books and multi-media instruction is difficult. My students are so beautifully unique, and enhance classroom discussions with their diverse background knowledge. I absolutely adore the students I teach and wish to provide them the very best fifth-grade ELA experience as possible!
My Project
This is my first year teaching fifth grade and I am in desperate need for books that my older students are interested in.
We are a school without a school library, therefore my classroom library needs to be filled with rich, modern titles to foster a love for reading and to enhance reading skills with texts they are intrigued by.
My students will be able to access all of the books donated for independent reading time and to "check out" and read at home. I envision literature circles and book clubs that my students can participate in with these books!
