My students need 65 white 1" binders to store their writing portfolios in a neat way. My students need multicolored cardstock to label binders and create stations.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are fabulous writers, but organizers... not so much. We need help!
I work at a Title 1 school in the city of New Britain, CT.
100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My school is a Project Child school. This means that my students have three teachers - a reading teacher, math teacher, and me: the writing teacher. In our cluster of classrooms we have a first, second, and third grade class. The teachers stay put and the students rotate every 90 minutes. It provides a wonderful sense of movement, and a new atmosphere every 90 minutes. We all know how students LOVE to move.
My students also LOVE to write. They would start a new writing piece every day I let them. Unfortunately, I'm running out of places to store their work. Their writing folders are torn, tattered, and filled to the brim.
My Project
The binders would greatly help my students to organize their work. I print out different formats of writing paper based on students' needs and grade level. I do this because standard elementary school writing paper is too wide to fit in their folders and too thin to withstand the students' constant erasing. However, despite the extra effort, the paper ends up mangled and ripped in their folders.
With these binders, I would be able to hole punch the differentiated paper so that students could organize their work. They would be able to have different sections for finished work and work in progress. I would also be able to easily remove work to assess or edit, and then replace it without ripping pages from a journal or shuffling through the mess in their folders.
The card stock would be used to create stations. Project Child schools run on stations and collaborative group work. This card stock would help our stations last for multiple years and the colors make the stations more appealing.
My students love school supplies, but most arrived to school this year without any of their own despite the lists that were sent home.
They could store their work and easily look back at how far they have come. The students love to have their own property and would take pride in having their very own binder. Having 60+ students, organization is key, and we are struggling!
