Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My children don't want to work! They want to BANG ON THE DRUM ALL DAY! Unfortunately, we have broken drum equipment and not enough drum sticks or drum pads for any 1 class.
My students are the children that attend school in New York and are mostly English Language Learners.
The predominant culture is Dominican. The grades are from K-5th grade and I teach music in all the grades.
My Project
This is my 3rd Donor's Choose Grant I've written. The first grant enabled me to get video equipment so the students could see their performance work and critique it, my second grant was to get brass and woodwind instruments to start a beginning band program. This grant is to get the resources needed to start a 4-5th grade drum and rhythm program. Students will increase their math skills, their coordination, and eye/hand responses as they learn to master reading rhythm, sticking patterns, and when to play what type of drum in a multi-drum set.
SMASH!
BOOM! CRASH!!! TIKITICK! BONG! These are the sounds I hear on a daily basis, but I want my students to become more sensitive and controlled in their technique and their ability to play together as a group. Your donation could make this grant a reality. The students will learn how to work together as the battery of a beginning band ensemble.
