Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have many second language learners from high poverty households in need of the best education to make them as successful as middle class and higher economic students. I believe in promoting their beginning interpersonal communication with simple commands like, "I will go to the park on Saturday!" or "My birthday is in August" to help my students improve their English Language skills. I want to give them every opportunity to use academic language while learning. My class will be practicing their English, and these opportunities will make my students fluent. I could have a poster or two on the wall describing shapes and days of the week. Using words like, "circle, square, cube or sphere.." This would help our students immensely.
My Project
My students come to me with beginning English Language skills. Their experience is in another language than that spoken at school. Because I teach Kindergarten, my mornings begin with circle time when we look at the calendar to count and discuss events. A new calendar would allow for us to manipulate ten frames to make a number which corresponds with the date. We could also discuss seasons and months of the year. These are essential standards to teach to Kindergarten students. Having a new calendar would be very beneficial to them. Let's make this project happen for my English Language Learners!
