My students need a book cart and carpet to have a place to "discover" books; the carpet has English and Spanish words which is extra special for my bilingual class.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Books are a treasure, waiting to be discovered! In my classroom, I have many books in boxes and plastic tubs sitting in different areas of the room for the students to choose books to read. If I could display the books in a way that was easy access for the students, more books would be discovered!
Our school is a large school located in the inner city.
All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the children in my classroom come from Spanish speaking homes. English is their second language. Most of their homes do not have books in English. It is extremely important for the students to have access to a literature rich classroom to make up for the lack. Each day I try to send home books for the students to share with their families and bring back to school the next day.
My Project
Presently, I have many books located around the classroom in boxes and plastic crates. It would be more beneficial to the students if the books could be displayed on a book cart for them to have easy access to read the titles and choose a book. At the end of each school day, I always try to send home books with the students to share with their families. The book cart will make it easier to choose a good book. The carpet will provide an excellent place for the students to sit and enjoy a good book when they finish their work. As an extra bonus, the carpet has English and Spanish words! This will also help the students build their English vocabulary. In order for students to be successful academically, they must learn to read and read well at an early age.
In my classroom, I want to be able to display the books in such a way that the students have easy access to see the books they may want to explore.
With the book cart and the carpet, the students will have ample time in class to enjoy the books, and they will have more exposure to exciting books, because they will be able to see more on display. In my classroom, I want the students to feel in their hearts that books are a treasure waiting to be discovered!
