My school health office is located in Newton, MA, just outside of Boston. We are part of the Newton Public Schools, a district that supports the full inclusion teaching model with special education students. My school benefits from Title 1 funds and also has a large ELL population representing children from many different cultures and backgrounds.
The health office is a frequent stop by many of the students on a daily basis.
Students not only visit the nurse when they are injured, they often times just need a place that they know is safe.
My Project
This bench would allow students a place to sit and wait, giving the student in the health room privacy while with the nurse.
Students will be able to sit and wait safely in the hallway on this new bench.
It is important to allow for all students to have privacy with the nurse. Having this bench will help students that are waiting to be patient and comfortable. Waiting is hard for anyone, especially for elementary age children! This is another way I can help the students be patient and respectful of others privacy. Even children need privacy from their peers.
