This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love exploring the children’s horror genre with Mary Downing Hahn. She catches young readers immediately and draws them in to various spooky situations.

When I read Wait Till Helen Comes with students we explore various methods used by the author to creep out her readers.

After reading this story students try their own hand at writing a spooky story using some of the same methods used. Every year I read this story I have many students willing to dive in to a chapter book for the first time in order to read a good spooky story written by Mary.
