My Project

Just like my reading intervention students, I am always learning! I have recently been reading research that suggests that when teaching comprehension, instead of teaching strategies like "main idea" and having students apply the skill to many differents topics, it's better to do a "deep dive" on one subject.

Our first exploration, will be to learn the difference between the Arctic and Antarctic, the animals that live in each of these regions, and the amazing body adaptations needed to survive such harsh environments.

My students are so excited to start this new adventure with enough books for our reading groups and a few read-alouds.

The books included in this project will allow us to have a wealth of information to compare the two regions, learn about the animals, and get a jump start on discussing global warming! There are some fiction books about those extreme environments too, so students can practice applying their new wealth of knowledge about the Arctic and Antarctic.
