This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
On to year four of teaching! I have learned so much over the past three years, and I cannot wait for another successful school year. This year, I will be teaching 10th and 11th English Language Arts with scholars that are eager to learn. I want to try and make my class as engaging and energetic as I can to make sure my scholars thrive.
Despite how excited my students may be about their education, many of them come to school with little to none of the necessary school supplies needed to be successful.
I work in a Title I school where my students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. Even though my students may deal with terrifying real-life circumstances, they still come to school ready to work and ready to be challenged to the next level. My scholars never cease to amaze me with their wit, charm, and amazing ideas!
My Project
We need a door stopper to help prop our classroom door open. I want to make sure my classroom is an inviting place for students and sometimes I need to step away from the door during hall passing times.
I want to provide my students with healthy snacks - like Quaker granola bars to help keep their bellies full and minds fueled while working hard in class.
Have you ever had to work while feeling hungry? This happens all the time for my teenagers.
The candy is for an incentive. Everyone needs a little motivation once in a while. My students enjoy Jolly Ranchers - and it is a small motivation that goes a long way. The Grandma's cookies will be used in weekly raffles. I provide my students with tickets when they are on task and working hard. At the end of the week, we pull names. The students are then able to pick a prize from the prize bag. It is fun and keeps them working when they might need that extra push.
Colored pens are wonderful for grading and in-class demonstrations. I often like to use different colors to help illustrate points. I prefer to grade in colors because it makes my comments visible and reduces the "red pen fear" that some students may have.
We also need file cabinet rails because our file cabinet is not meant for hanging folders. We want to stay organized this year!
Finally, the construction paper and markers are meant for classroom hands-on projects.
