Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My virtual classroom consists of 10-second graders and 5 first graders which have several disabilities. They are from a high poverty area with heavy Language barriers and delays. They are mostly free and reduced lunch students. The families have been hit hard by COVID-19 and mostly out of work or displaced.
Using the dry erase boards to write wacky words is one of the activities that my students enjoy playing.
This is an educational game that helps to keep my special needs students engaged and willing to participate and learn better. These families are limited to access to technology. These families are limited with access to technology. The items we get. We will continue to use it once we return.
What I love about my students is that they are hard workers. They try and try again. They enjoy school. When others look in on my classroom, they don't even know that my students may have so many disabilities because of the laugher, joy, and eagerness to learn. They will always have a place in my heart. I miss them right now with the virtual classroom even though we see each other every day.
My Project
We will be using our whiteboards during virtual learning to answer our questions. We use our boards when we break up into ours groups to write our answers then review them. I will ask questions and the students will write their responses. We will use the write boards for phonic, writing of sight words, sentence writing, and math problems. I will give the students words for the sight word list for them to try and spell. The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in English Language Arts. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work with both teachers and students. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my special education students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction form either myself or other students.
When you donate to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be glad to show their answers.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand. I plan on meeting up with my student's parents to distribute the whiteboards and markers. My students still lack the technology needed and so this is an alternate while keeping them focused and making a game out of answering questions.
