My Students
AHH We need help with writing!!! At our school we do not have a writing curriculum that we use to teach writing. What I've been doing the past few years is finding workbooks for children to work out of, but they are becoming SO bored with the way I am teaching writing that we need some new resources.
I have the most wonderful group of 4th graders a teacher could ever hope for.
I teach at at public charter school in Minnesota and LOVE it!!! I have 15 children in my classroom, I have been so lucky to have a small class size so I can give my students plenty of small group time. This school year has been so much fun watching them make so many improvements and learning so much....its hard to believe that spring is almost here. The children really do love coming to school.
We actually have school on Saturdays too and about half of my class comes! I know that may sound crazy to some but the students really do love coming to school. We are an inner-city school and take pride in being able to offer our beautiful children a safe and welcoming place for them to come and learn. I always refer to my classroom as a family. We truly are one. I am so blessed to be the teacher to such an amazing group of children!
My Project
This short paragraph would never fully describe our need for new writing materials. Since I work at a small charter school, there has not been any funding available for new curriculum or materials for the past few years. Our school has never purchased a writing curriculum so I bought a book at teaching store that had worksheets to copy for children as well as some ideas for writing. I have used this book for the past few years but I am in DIRE need of new materials for the students to use for writing.
I am hoping to get a new writing center, writing folders, journals, writing games, idea cards and so many other items that will help them become better writers. As I mentioned, these few lines doesn't describe how much I am hoping to have my project funded. I want the children to be able to get some good use of the materials before the school year ends. I am so glad that there are people out there who know how important becoming a good writer is and are willing to help us.
If we are fortunate enough to have our writing project funded, we will be thrilled.
It is so sad when children go throughout elementary and some through high school and don't know how to properly write an essay or how to address an envelope! I know that the materials that I am hoping for will greatly help my students become better writers, and I am so excited to see their faces light up when their new materials arrive, they each will have a new writing journal and a writing process folder!
