Vroom...Vroom...Help Us Combine Art And Science To Learn About Cars
My students need a book about car engineering and design along with a set of scratch race car ornaments and a set of wooden cars for them to decorate and race.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love science, math, and art and I try to make their lessons exciting by bringing these lessons to life so all students can be exposed to the STEAM curriculum. I hope this project will help inspire my students' imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in the STEAM fields.
My students are wonderful second graders.
Our school is located in a high poverty immigrant community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school and my students will hopefully be the first ones in their families to go to college. My classroom consists primarily of students who are learning English as a second language. I also mainstream learning disabled students in my all inclusive classroom. In addition, I partner for enrichment activities with a 3rd grade class and a class of deaf and hard- of-hearing students who will also participate in this project.
My Project
My students will be visiting the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles in December. This project will be a follow-up to that field trip. The goal of this project will be for my students to learn more information about cars. I am asking for the nonfiction book "How Cars Work: The Interactive Guide to Mechanisms that Make a Car Move " to teach them about the engineering, science, and design work involved in car production.
In addition, I'm asking for 6 sets of Design-Your-Own Cars kits so my students and their 3rd grade buddies will be able to decorate and race their own wooden cars and sets of Magic Color Scratch Race Car Ornaments that will be used as a fun follow-up culminating art project for my class, the deaf and hard-of-hearing class that I partner with, and our 3rd grade buddy class.
We currently have weekly STEAM rotations with our 3rd grade buddies and these art projects will fit perfectly into our rotations. I'm sure my students are going to love doing these art projects with their buddies!
This project will enrich my curriculum and allow my students to use their creativity and become excited about what they are learning! I want this project to help inspire my students' imaginations and positively influence many of these students to pursue careers in the STEAM fields.
