Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is made up of students who come from various backgrounds. They are kind, curious, imaginative and love to learn! Unfortunately, funding at our school is at an all time low. I want to be able to help them reach information and knowledge beyond the classroom, through hands-on learning. They are twenty-first-century learners who are thirsty for knowledge and ready for a challenge.

I am the GATE coordinator as well as a fourth grade teacher and my emphasis is to help students be well-rounded and challenge them academically, as well as provide them with opportunities to challenge themselves in non-traditional ways.

The world is changing, so the way we teach our students needs to change, too. We also need to accommodate their various needs and learning styles to help them strive for their very best!

My Project

In my class, we do centers throughout the day, it helps keeps students on task and engaged while I work with small groups to give individualized instructions. Our room is a small bungalow and movement is many times limited. Instead of having students get up during centers to get books in our corner library, this cart will allow me to move the library to a more central spot or to the group that will be using it. Our library I am essential part of our literacy program, because I have it labeled by TRC level (the trading level they test at). Students are encouraged to use the skills they learning during small group time on a book that interests them, and on their level or one level above, if they are ready for a challenge. Students will be looking at character traits or them in fictional books, and main idea and details or cause and effect in nonfictional books. Then after our literacy centers we can roll it back to its space. It would make the books so much more accessible to the children. Utilizing the most out of class time is many times as important as the materials we are teaching. These carts will help us make the most of it!
