I love teaching and I am committed to giving my students every opportunity possible to be successful. Teaching at a high-poverty school has its challenges.
My students require lots of hands-on activities and many require additional small group or one-on-one attention, especially in math and reading.
I deeply care about the individual needs of my students, which is why I spend a majority of my free time researching ways to provide them with the instruction and materials they need to succeed.
Please help me provide my students with an amazing education. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated by myself, my students, this school, and this community.
The social studies content interventionist for our school has been collecting and creating 360 photos and videos that align and support our 5th grade social studies standards for United States history from 1865 to the present. My students will be able to use the virtual reality headsets to explore the routes and museums of the Oregon Trail, walk through museums honoring our famous inventors, experience WWI and WWII museums, explore the works projects completed by the CCC during the New Deal, and walk in the shoes of famous activists during the Civil Rights Movement. All of these experiences will allow my students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich history of America.
Why virtual reality?
Edgar Dale’s Cone of Experience has shown that the average person only remembers 20% of what they hear and 30% of what they see, but up to 90% of what they personally experience. As a result, lessons that incorporate virtual resources provide a richer and deeper experience that will have more of an impact on the learning experience of students.
Using these Oculus Go headsets and accessories, my students will be able to travel to and explore places all over the world without leaving the classroom. Virtual reality makes travel possible without the constraints of time, fees, and permission slips. Without stepping foot on a bus, my students will be able to visit different regions of the United States, museums, national parks, historic battlefields, and monuments with virtual class tours.
