This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Words are the most powerful weapons on earth. Words are eternal. My students are learning to master the English language. Learning Latin will help them to understand the mechanics of English and build a platform to learn other languages with ease. Learning Roman mythology is a bonus.
My students are inquisitive and enjoy learning new and unusual information.
They are always exploring ways to differentiate themselves from the people around them. When they first began learning that "words" are puzzles and have sometimes been combined from ancient term to express modern concepts and inventions, they are surprised. When they learned that "telephone" was a combination of ancient Greek words, they were thrilled by the concept and wanted to learn more "old" words. The Internet has endless information that we can project directly into our classroom. The use of internet information diminishes the dependency on extensive materials outside of our text.
Mythology and Roman history have help brighten the lamp of learning for other academic subjects . The students understand all their subjects have history that can make learning very interesting.
My Project
I learned Latin in elementary school. The discipline assisted me for my entire educational career and made me a lifelong learner. Access to the Internet, utilized in a group setting moves the study of the literature and grammar from solitary to a group experience. The students are encouraged to discuss what they see, practice with each other, team-up with a partner and continue to explore the websites presented in class to have fun and deepen their understanding of language and literature in there spare time.
Student relish discovering the very money they use everyday has Latin words and meanings. When they see Latin words on buildings we see via the internet they understand the connections and are entertained. Viewing buildings around the world would be interesting on the pages of a book but on a big screen, in a movie or photo display, ah, that is priceless.
I am requesting a projector to enable the class to view information from the Internet which includes activities that will enrich each lesson.
Every school year the teachers work to educate and inspire our students to achieve multiple goals: acquisition of skills and knowledge; academic achievement; and a love of lifelong learning. Students learn discipline, appreciation of history, enjoyment of theater, the roots and rule of language and a sense of community.
