This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The best way to become a better reader is to practice each day with books you choose, on your just right reading level." -Gail Boushey; Joan Moser
My students have been building their reading and writing stamina during our Daily 5 work. We need individual storage bins and high interest stories.
My class of fourth grade students are determined to become better readers despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis.
We are a Title I school that has a high population of English Language Learners. 100% of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
With individual book tubs/boxes, my students will be able to store their good-fit books and notebooks in one spot for our Daily 5 work. My students need these book tubs/boxes to stay organized and to eliminate the amount of time wasted when transitioning and searching for their books. Students are given time each week to "shop" for new books from the classroom library, but do not have a central location to store them, yet! We need your help to get us organized.
My students will also greatly benefit from the monthly Scholastic Storyworks Magazine. This magazine will allow us to read high interest articles, including non-fiction. These articles will be used for close reads, learning new vocabulary words and teaching the common core state standards.
With your help, my students will become more organized and confident in their reading abilities.
The Daily 5 book tubs are vital to our success and the Storyworks magazine will provide us with high interest articles to learn from.
