"Nom" "Nom" "Nom" Do you hear that? That is the sound of my 5th graders chomping at the bit to get good books into our classroom library. I am new to teaching 5th grade and I love inspiring my students to read, read, read! I spend a lot of time at my public library finding books for my students.
My students are a fantastic group of honest, helpful, and giving students.
They are generous with hugs and want to learn new things. Those new things may not always be part of the curriculum, but we make the most of all "teachable moments". They overcome many challenges to come to school and learn everyday. I want to give them the richest education I can.
My Project
I teach in a high poverty school and many of my students to not have access to quality literature. My classroom is a place that is designed to encourage reading. I desire to have a classroom library that makes students hungry for books. I want them to be excited to pick out new books and talk with me about them. I want to build on that excitement and have it not only reach the students at school, but will hopefully extend into their home lives as well. I want reading to be something that creates a feeling of excitement in my students. I have asked my students through reading inventories and individual conferencing what types of books they are most interested in. I asked for those books in this project and can not wait to see their faces if we receive them.
These books will impact my students this year in an amazing way.
You will be helping me to share my deep love of reading with my students. You will be helping to create life-long readers. You will be showing students that we care about their education. Books are a phenomenal gift that will entertain and empower my students. I will be able to use these books in my library for many years, so you will be giving this gift of reading to many students.
