My students need paint and brushes as well as posterboards to build model volcanoes and tell younger students what they know about the real phenomena.

My Students
Do you remember building a model volcano as a youth? These middle schoolers need the hands-on experience of creating a model volcano of their own.
Our students are ethnically diverse, high poverty (70% free and reduced lunch) with a energy for learning that is unbeatable!
They especially seem to like showing what they know to parents, family, and community members. As a group, this cohort is active and engaged in all hands-on projects.
My Project
Our class is requesting art supplies such as paint and brushes to help create their model volcanoes. The volcanoes start out with recycled newspaper, cardboard, flour and water. With the colorful paints, students create natural looking models which look very similar to the Kverkfjoll of Iceland, or Mayon of the Philipines, or any one of the 30+ volcanoes these middle schoolers choose to research.
Our middle schoolers have sighted the volcano project as their most beloved project of the year.
It might be the impressive nature of the models, the amazing research they have done or it could be that they have shared their expertise with the local media AND their local elementary school. Be part of these 7th graders' amazing memories.
