Our students at this "new urban" school have a 70% free and reduced lunch rate, yet they have the lowest per student funding in Washington State. They are a diverse group of students with a high Latino/a population, a historic African American population, a growing Pacific Islander population and a relatively stable Asian Population with a dwindling White population. We have full inclusion for our special needs students. They are in a culturally diverse school with a positive school culture. They are active as a group when engaging in hands-on, minds-on experiences. They seem to be motivated by doing rather than seeing as many of us are. This year I have an amazing engaged group with a larger percentage of boys (53%).
