This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students cannot afford to rent instruments and pay for private music instruction. They rely on school owned instruments to participate in and learn music.

We are a relatively new school, and are continuing to grow and expand each year.

The high school opened in 2010 with a very limited staff, and no music program. This will be our first year offering music classes. Therefore, we are in need of a variety of instruments to stock our classroom!

My Project

I currently have a student who is new to the school, but has been playing viola for a number of years. This student auditioned for and was accepted to the Rhode Island Junior All-State Orchestra during their 9th grade year. This year, that student hopes to audition for Senior All-State. However, this student does not own an instrument, cannot rent an instrument, and the school does not currently have one to lend. All-State auditions are in November, so I would like to be able to supply this student with an instrument in time to prepare and audition for Senior All-State. A number of our students have shown interest in learning string instruments, and I would like to be able to offer them all the opportunity to learn.

This instrument will be cared for and used by other students year after year.

Just imagine the joy on a student's face when they hold "their" instrument for the very first time! Imagine how my current student will feel knowing that they again have the opportunity to audition for All-State because their school was able to provide that opportunity to them. We can only do that with your help and your donations! Thank you.
