Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are curious, kind, and ready to explore the world around them — but they need books and materials that reflect who they are and the diversity of their communities.
I teach K–4 students, many of whom are English Language Learners and come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds including Latinx, African American, Asian, and Indigenous heritage.
However, our classroom library lacks books where they can see children and families who look, speak, and live like they do.
This project will provide racially diverse and inclusive books that reflect our students’ identities, introduce them to different cultures and experiences, and teach powerful lessons about empathy, fairness, and justice.
