it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project will use the novels Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich and Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan to engage students in an exploration of cultural resilience, identity, and history. My goal for this project is that through reading, discussion, and hands-on activities, students will examine the experiences of Native American and immigrant families, and understand how literature reflects history and culture. Students will learn about the historical experiences of different cultural groups through the lens of both novels and explore how the Ojibwe people and Mexican migrant workers demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity. This project will make a difference in their learning as it encourages critical thinking, empathy, and an appreciation of the diversity of human experiences across time and place.
