Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher of Texas history, I feel it is very important for students to be able to experience and interact with the past in order to fully understand its history. In order to teach the story of different historical periods of time and give my students the full picture, I would like to incorporate books from a series titled, "Voices From America's Past." Through letters, diaries and journal entries based on historic events, my students can learn the story of the different eras in Texas History. The expository text and personal accounts found in these books are enhanced with photographs and art from that time period making learning more fun and exciting.
My school is a Title I school. Ninety percent of the students are on free or reduced lunch, making us an economically disadvantaged school therefore making it relatively impossible for my students to purchase these books.
The book series, "Voices From America's Past" is published by National Geographic School Publishing. I would like enough books for students to share. Books are sold in packs of six and I would like 3 six packs of each of the following 3 titles: Cowboys and Cattle Drives, Missions and Ranchos, and Blue or Gray? A Family Divided. One more item to complete my request is the Teacher's Guide and Assessments Book.
(6-pack x 3 of each title x 3 titles = 54 books)
I believe that this series and these titles in particular will enhance the history experience for all of my students.
