This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an inspiring group of bilingual 5th graders at a Title I school. My students are bright, creative, and full of potential, but many don’t often see themselves reflected in the books we read at school. This project will provide our classroom with inclusive and diverse books that center stories around racial justice, fairness, and identity—books where my students can see their cultures, languages, and experiences represented. It will also include art supplies that give students the chance to reflect on those stories and express their own voices through creative projects.

These materials will help my students grow as thoughtful, critical thinkers who care about compassion, equity, and inclusion.

They will read about people from different backgrounds, make personal connections, and have meaningful conversations about what fairness and justice look like in our world. My goal is for every student to feel seen, empowered, and proud of who they are—and to know that their voice matters. With your help, they’ll gain not just academic skills, but confidence and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
