My students need Solve and Slide Language Practice Books, What's the Word? Vocabulary Riddles and Hear Myself Sound Phones to increase their vocabulary skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am the Literacy Intervention Teacher in a Baltimore City Title I school. It is in a high-need community where our students are faced with a variety of challenges. Over 80% of the students receive free lunch. I work with groups of children (grades 1 through 5) to help them gain better reading skills. The goal: Victorious Readers!
Our students' vocabulary skills are weak and they have difficulty understanding what they read. In many cases the cause is the lack of being exposed to the proper pronunciation of words, the lack of conversation and/or the lack of varied experiences.
The "Solve and Slide Language Practice Books" and the "What's the Word? Vocabulary Riddles" will target areas of need such as grammar and usage, spelling, word analysis, synonyms and antonyms, figures of speech, context clues and homophones. The "Hear Myself Sound Phones" will enable the students to hear themselves as they use these activities without disturbing others. It only takes a whisper. These items will help to differentiate instruction.
You can be the one to open an entire new world for my students. They will be able to increase their vocabulary skills which will enable them to read with understanding. Victorious Readers!
