Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The last day I saw my fourth graders was March 13. Unfortunately, I did not get to say good-bye to them as we hurriedly tried to figure out how to teach them remotely. Our scholars are mostly working on enrichment packets sent to them through the district. Fortunately, I am able to speak with many of my students through an educational communication app.

I want my students to work at home with other reading resources too.

Many of my students do not have books at home. Instead of working on packets all the time, I want them to be reading and working on comprehension skills. It is hard not being able to be with my students and guide them in all that they are doing in their learning.

My Project

During our distance learning sessions, these books will be utilized during read-aloud. For example, the book Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster, we will read and we will discuss misconceptions about word meanings. In the book The Boy Who Loved Words, students will discover a young boy who loves words. These engaging vocabulary books will help build dialogue with my students in regards to the importance of vocabulary development. I do not know what my classroom will look like come August. However, my hope is to focus on vocabulary study.

These resources will help build my students' word knowledge, confidence and increase achievement.

In order to support their learning, I find it essential to have these supplemental materials to assist their learning. My instruction does not focus in direct instruction but rather student centered instruction where the students are able to interact while learning and I can provided them with tools to grow in the English language.
