My students are reflective readers and writers. I want to give them opportunities to interact with higher level vocabulary words in great literature. It is my goal to help my students incorporate these words in to their speaking, listening, reading and writing vocabulary.
My fourth graders are hard working and conscientious students.
They are working on building scholarly thinking and actions. They are voracious readers, budding authors and mathematicians in the making. These diligent fourth graders would greatly benefit from resources that help them expand their experiences. Our school is a very diverse Title I school.
My Project
These materials would give students the opportunity to learn new vocabulary words in the context of great literature. These books will be used first as read aloud books to introduce children to the words in context and build our listening vocabulary. Throughout the week we will practice incorporating these vocabulary words in to our speaking and writing vocabulary. We will also look for these words in the chapter books we are reading independently. These books will then be added to the class library for all students to borrow.
These donations will make a positive impact on these students' lives.
It will increase their understanding of words in the world around them. My students love using new words in their conversations and in their writing. They are thrilled when they find these words in their own reading. These opportunities to expand their vocabulary will help them in the daily experiences at school and at home.
